Overlooking Beaujolais

"These are fresh, natural, vibrant wines that adhere to traditional Beaujolais... If that augurs what's to come, you'd better add another Sunier to your Beaujolais wants list."

-- Neal Martin, Wine Advocate

Antoine Sunier is one of the few vignerons farming organically in Beaujolais, where less than 3% of the vineyards are farmed this way. The younger brother of rising star Julien Sunier, Antoine produced his first vintage in 2014. Before that, he attended viticultural school in Beaune and worked alongside Jean-Paul Lapalu (and, of course, his brother) until he decided to begin making his own wine.

The wines are made with semi carbonic maceration and indigenous yeasts, and aged in neutral barrels with only a small amount of sulfur added when the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.

"The purity and energy of these wines will thrill fans of Antoine's brother's work, as well as any fan of Beaujolais in the vibrant mode."

2015 Beaujolais Régnié                              91 WA

available in 750ml and 1.5L
"The 2015 Régnié, which was converted to organic in 2014, does not quite possess the refinement of the Morgon on the nose, though it is still very attractive with raspberry and wild strawberry, hints of cooked meat in the background. The palate is medim-bodied with supple tannin, crisp and taut with a keen line of acidity and fine tension on the shimmering finish. Overall, the Régnié actually might have the edge over the MOrgon thanks to its freshness and it is one of those wines that the longer you remain in its presence, the more you warm to its charm. It might be one of Antoine's best wines thus far."

2014 Beaujolais Morgon                         92 Vinous

"Brilliant magenta. Vibrant, sharply focused dark berry and peppery spice aromas, along with a hint of musky flowers. Subtly sweet and incisive, offering juicy black raspberry and boysenberry flavors and a hint of licorice that builds on the back half. Silky, well-knit tannins give shape to the penetrating finish, which hangs on with excellent tenacity and building sweetness."                                                                          --Josh Raynolds

2015 Beaujolais Morgon

available in 750ml and 1.5L
"Undergoing 14 datys mceration and matured for 8 months in used barrel, the 2015 Morgon has a pleasant redcurrant jam and wild strawberry scented bouquet that manages to contain the precocity of the vintage and allow the terroir to show through. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, the acidity nicely controlled (13.96%) with a fresh and vibrant, slightly saline finish."                                                           --Neal Martin
