Ron and Susan Krausz envisioned a vineyard in the heart of the mountain when they purchased a rugged, remote patch of land on the western edge of Howell Mountain in 1988. After nearly 30 years of hard work and education, that vision is a reality. Twnty-two blocks of classic Bordeaux varieties planted across 13 acres, every vine farmed organically since the day it was planted. Towering above the of line at elevations between 1,400 and 1,650 feet, the vineyards are free to soak in the abundant California sun, creating a beautiful ripeness in the wines. The rocky, space Aiken Series volcanic soils retain little water, and even fewer nutrients. Tight clusters full of tiny, compact berries leads to structure and concentration.

The Arkenstone cave was completed in 2008. Elegantly carved into the side of the mountain, its footprint is minimal but is impact immense. Utilizing the power or gravity, the fruit is moved from crush pad to fermentation tank to barrel with the utmost care. State-of-the-art technology is evident at every turn. Everything is optimized to create the best wine possible.
