Robert Kamen has led an interesting life. He parlayed a track scholarship to NYU into a career as one of Hollywood's most famous and beloved screenwriters, responsible for such works as Taps, The Karate Kid, A Walk in the Clouds, and Taken

In 1980, Robert took his first screenwriting check ever and purchased a pristine piece of property on top of Sonoma Mountain, just to the southwest of Mt. Veeder. With no roads, no power, and certainly no vines, Robert started from scratch. He hired famed vineyarmd manager Phil Coturri to plant Cabernet vines where nature allowed, and Phil still manages the vines today as they struggle to survive amid the volcanic outcroppings and fractured rock. The wines are made by Mark Herold, one of Napa's most distinguished consultants. The unique mountain-grown fruit produces critically-acclaimed reds of depth, power and, and concentration that continue to evolve and gain complexity.

The Roussillon may be in France, but the village of Maury is Catalan, so it's not surprising that Evan would look to Spanish varieties. Albariño is sourced from Ann Kraemer's Shake Ridge Ranch, the Tempranillo from the Vista Luna Vineyard, farmed by the godfather of California-gorwn Spanish varietals, Markus Bokisch. Both wines are made at the Kongsgaard cave on Atlas Peak. Says Evan, "I produce only as much as I can make with my own hands."
