In a former convent on the very southern reaches of a glacial moraine in the Costières de Nîmes, rests an ancient sundial inscribed with the Latin words "Sine Sole Nihil" - or "Without the sun, nothing." This is the setting of Chateau Mourgues du Gres. Here is where Francois and Anne Collard tame a rugged and breathtaking landscape to produce elegant wines of incredible value.

The grapes are grown without chemicals, picked by hand, and vinified and aged with a minimal use of oak so that these incredible natural elements may speak clearly through the wines.

A trained enologist, Francois Collard returned to his homeland in the souther Rhône after training and working elsewhere in France, including a stint at Chateau Laffite in Bordeaux. The combination of the sun, wine, soil, and water in Costieres de Nikes is unique, and the Collards have been steadily mastering the combination for years. The ever-present sun give maturity and ripeness to the grapes. The Mistral blows in from the north, drying the vines and helping to prevent disease and rot. The ground is covered in galets, rounded stones left behind by a receding glacier, which contribute minerality. The Rhone River and nearby Mediterranean Sea cool the land off at night, preserving freshness.
