Blair Pence's love to wine started nearly 50 years ago at the USC Delta House where, between beers and Jack Daniels, he enjoyed many great bottles of classic California Cabernets (they were cheap back then). This early exposure grew into a fascination with Burgundy. As a result, he has had the great fortune of traveling there multiple times, in a protracted attempt to understand the mysteries of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Over the last 10 years, Blair has spent an incredible amount of time, focus and money, first finding and then developing his ranch in western Santa Barbara County into a premium vineyard and winery. Within the 200-acre working ranch, he is farming organically 38 acre of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Grenache, and Gamay. The wines are made by Sashi Moorman who is known for his brilliant winemaking talents and for making balanced, complex, and terror-drive wines.

The Pence Ranch team has established the highest aspirations for its vineyard and its wine program. The endeavor is purposeful, in that everything is done with deliberation and with regard to cost, to achieve the highest level of quality in the wines. The philosophy in the cellar is driven by restraint, balance, freshness, and site.
