Peter and Deanne Franus have been crafting fantastic wines from select vineyards in Napa, Carneros, and Mt. Veeder for over 30 years. Peter believes in a non-interventionist approach to winemaking through a respect for tradition and a heavy reliance on intuition, feel, and the experience he has acquired from more than three decades of winemaking. 

Where possible, indigenous yeasts are utilized and sulfur is kept to a minimum. iElevagei occurs in 500L barrels to limit oxygen contact and minimize the influence of oak. Obvious themes permeate the making of these Syrahs, but each affords a unique snapshot of the Santa Barbara region. The wines of Piedrasassi will stimulate not only the palate, but the mind as well.

In addition to soil structure, micro-climate and exposition of each vineyard, Peter is quick to name the grape grower as well, as each site provides a unique part of his wines: "Distinctive wines can only come from outstanding fruit which is listed to certain unique sites and microclimates. Grapes from these sources do not require a lot of manipulation and have the greatest potential to produce the most exciting wines on the market today. I have the good fortune to work with some of the best growers anywhere who are pleased when their grapes do not disappear in massive blends."
